Day 31: #fallvinylhealing The Album to Define You

There were big plans for Day 31 #fallvinylhealing to showcase an album that is quintessentially you. I was planning to run a comb thru my ratty ass hair, maybe fix my face up a little, give my RBF a rest, but obviously, I didn’t quite make it there. And instead of focusing on the laundry list of things that made the day run away from me, I reflected on Zevon’s important words to simply “enjoy every sandwich” which is exactly what this photo and album represents.

It’s almost serendipitous in terms of the alignment of my day intersecting with truly being present when this moment with The Wind was captured. It turns out the best cures for crabby patty behavior about…what even… ? Being inconvenienced by snow or fighting off a tension headache on a much too busy day is actually grabbing some beers, pulling on your favorite beanie, and going on an all evening quest to find out where all the full bars are at with your best Halloween enthusiast. And that’s my sandwich, right there.

This copy was acquired on RSD 2023, and has remained sealed until a few days ago when I finally popped the plastic on it. Later, I discovered I opened it six months to the day after purchase. That’s not meaningful but I thought it was kind of an organically cool moment.

Zevon covered a lot of ground on this one. Dirty Life and Times is my favorite, followed by the Dwight Yoakam supported Disorder in the House. Knocking on Heaven’s Door and Please Stay are particularly hard to listen to, backed by Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, respectively on those tracks.

Out of all my records, I’m always led back to Warren. His dirty life and times, constantly overlooked talent, lyrical content that tells really great stories, the interesting band of characters he attracted during his career. He’s not just the guy Kid Rock sampled for that one song, but I’m not mad atcha if you like it because I do too.

So anyway, this is quintessentially me: colder than fuck, snotscickles on my jacket sleeve, maybe buzzed, and definitely hopped up on some Twizlers, coming in proverbially hot from a fantastic candy haul, and looking for something good to listen to.
