When Jorge @therapyinvinyl and I decided to offer these prompts, I was like, man, I’mma be real organized and prepared and holy moly will I make some witty cool girl posts with pretty selfies and memorable anecdotes.
“Lol” No.
I didn’t plan on pairing this with a #soundtracksunday post. Still, it’s a coincidence to be Day 1 of #fallvinylhealing (please, jeebus, let that be the correct hashtagger) and this is one I settled on in a panic last night remembering I definitely had to post today. I’ve photographed this album twice before in 2023, but never posted. They were pretty pics and I’ll have to go look for them again.

So, this one has it all. Not only is it one of my favorite films, the music is an amazing compliment. The orchestral work was done by the awesome Danny Elfman, and the remainder a hodge podge of upbeat oldies hits, including my personal fave, Buddy Holly, plus a score song by Pearl Jam that never not makes me cry. (PJ, I’ll get back to you later this month maybe, depending on how brave I am.)

The arranging hits perfect elements for me. It’s akin to what I’d hear at home sitting at the kitchen table doing homework while my dad was making shit on a shingle and calling it dinner. The instrumental is a beautifully smooth and predictable score, which we also very likely could be listening to at home, too.
The movie lends itself to the complexity of familial relationships, specifically with fathers, and the true love of the family you pick up along the way, as well. Those are folks I’ve relied on so greatly in my life because I’ve not had much else.
The more I’ve thought about it, I don’t think this is the last soundtrack to grace my page this month. I find that kind of interesting but it makes sense. I used to have big love for soundtracks.
Happy day one of October, vinyl fam. 🖤
