Happy one-year insta-versary, @siliconeandvinyl. 🎉 Vinyl-versary? I’m not good at those things either way.

I remember feeling so blown away to find this weird little corner of the internet where other people took dweeby pics of their records, and that there was this mighty collective of neat folks who likewise thought it was cool that others did the same. Merely a casual observer for a year or so beforehand, about a year ago today I made a post on a whim about what I was listening to.

SRV was my first official entry into the #vinylcommunity, and here he is again with Double Trouble. The album itself is cheap with love and wear. It was one of the earlier ones I picked up when I started rebuilding and I was glad to welcome it on vinyl. I was raised with a lot of blues, and bled a lot of my college working life to the venue that ultimately claimed his life. There’s a great deal of meditation I’ve had on his genius and all that still doesn’t feel like enough time spent. He and my other buddies on the shelf deserve so much better than the modest set-up I’ve provided, but I also recognize we’ve come a long way since the milk crates on the floor. The work of SRV, especially his live stuff, truly is a compliment to my own personal growth so it’s fitting he was the catalyst for this little journey of mine on the insta.

Honestly though, it’s just been a fun year hearing all your spins, compiling tons of new to me music, seeing clips of all your shows, bullshitting on tunes, and celebrating mutual accomplishments. In the year I’ve been on Instagram specifically showing off records, I’ve learned how much music, writing, writing about music, and people…now, that’s a big one…what other people mean to me.

The amount of sheer talent and creativity in our odd little family astounds me. And I’m just always nerdily excited to see what all you mo’fo’s are going to pull tomorrow. Truly keeps me going and is some of my favorite moments each day I log in.
Cheers to Year Two. 🖤🍻
