Old movies are my jam and I know this recording was broadcasted well after the era of Blue Hawaii, but this album art’s serving up all sorts of wonderful vintage space age-y beach vibes that absolutely lights up my tiki soul.

Humbly, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to enjoy the amazing island of Kauai and typically stay just down the road from where that movie was filmed. Anyone who knows the place understands it’s bittersweet where time has met ocean wear, rumor, and foreclosure. I feel the significance whenever I’ve fortunately driven past, despite never really being into Elvis. (Sorry, if that’s sacrilege for some.) I appreciate the dichotomy of this decrepit structure once full of life positioned adjacent to a beautiful teal ocean, quite literally salt-foaming at the mouth with each bite of sand it takes, showing off its strength and virility.

For sure this has been given its moment on the turntable, yet this one serves better right now, framed, in my new office space for now. 🌺
